Life is Good

I just got into my house … the streets of DC were crazy in celebration.

Obama won!

Life for us as a people is looking up … the nation as a whole is looking positive.

No need to think about relationships now … go celebrate.

If you voted McCain … kick rocks.

I will say this … expect the official end of racism to be announced tomorrow.  Someone on CNN already hinted at it … but we will soon be robbed of the ability to complain about “The Man”, desire reparations, or claim injustice.  With this great history making event … Black people … we have no excuse and need to get it together.

Something more educated to come later.

racism is over…its a good feeling. I got my reperations last night. its a proud time to be americaan.

I’m so proud that he won this race
elated that he finished first place
the hope and dream of the slave is realized
I see the nation through my grandmothers eyes
I’m screaming from the zionest peak we have over come
in judges 4: 6-14 it was written
and so it has been done. -akua

RACISM IS NOT OVER!!! I’m still bout to go out here and struggle to find a job only to lose it to someone half as qualified, I’m still going to be presumed incompetent, my culture is still going to be mocked and laughed at (probably more so now than ever since people are gonna feel they have license to do so because “it’s not racism… racism is “over”").

We are making progress, but there’s still a ways to go in the hearts and minds of individuals. I’m very proud that so many non-blacks helped make this happen….that IS progress. A whole lot of it.

Indeed racism is not over…but the excuses we tend to fall back on are. You’re struggling to find a job because the economy sucks or plainly because you didn’t interview well. My name is Donteacia…most whites can’t even say it..and when they see it I’m sure they develop stereotypes in their mind, but I know that when I interview well and if I present myself as the perfect candidate for the job I win out.

If I leave more to long for then I am overlooked. Not everything is determined based a resume, personal accountability for one’s attitude has some weight.

Racism is innately bred in our loins, and until we do away with demographical statistics racism will always exist, but using it as a crutch ends today. I think therefore I am folks…it’s time for us to elevate our mind.

  6. 6 6. Teacia

I completely agree with Hasani…well hot damn, but I do. This thing would have been won months ago if Barack was a white man…but his win is a testament to our strength and the progression we’re making as a nation…let go of the anger everyone…we won.

it may or may not be in the red states..and particularly for people who can’t get their language togeher about thought, the possibilities and right action. President Elect Obama came out of no where to do what Jesse couldn’t do TWO TIMES..Count them one…two..

maybe that will get people to think about the blueprint for success.

Racism isn’t over. It’s just going to put on better makeup and make snarling remarks like the ones I heard on talk radio this morning. I’m happy for Obama. I’m happy that in my lifetime, I’m able to see a black President elect. I also am not naive enough to ignore that Obama now has the weight of the world on his shoulders and that he enemies by default. I wish him the very best but hope that the Secret Service are on their A game. BTW…anybody who has any coupon specials for moving companies, forward them to the Captain so that I can hand carry them to 1700 Penn.

“personal accountability for one’s attitude has some weight.”

I know you’re not implying that I don’t know how to carry myself…. puh-leeze. I grew up in the suburbs, I know how to code switch with the best of them. If anything I struggled my whole life with the insult that I wasn’t “black enough”. Problem is, racism causes people to look at me with my locs (which I keep WELL maintained…. a lot of folks don’t even realize that they are locs) and the fact that I don’t fit the black sorority girl mold (nothing against greeks…. if my situation were different I probably woulda joined, too) and they make assumptions about me that aren’t true, no matter how perfect my diction is, no matter how pleasant I am, no matter how many high distinctions and cum laudes and honors I have on my resume. Racism causes the majority to pigeonhole us…. if you don’t fit within some standard expectation of what “black” is, then they can’t handle you. Never mind that white people come in all different personality types and it’s ok. If I’m quiet, it means I must be angry and stand-offish…. not that I’m just a shy introverted person. If I wear my 3 inch heels (making me 6 feet tall) and carry myself with confidence, I must “think I’m better than someone”, not that I just learned to carry myself with good posture (thanks, marching band).

I’m not totally blaming racism for my not having a (full time) job right now…. the economy sucks and there are a lot of lawyers out of work, period. I’ve NEVER been the type to make excuses and blame THE MAN. I’m talking about that below the surface racism that I got at my last job, the type that kept me doing the menial tasks and minor projects while they at the same time were praising my work product and intellect. The racism that kept them from actually coming INTO my office and sitting down in my chairs instead of addressing me from the doorway. The racism that the firm spent $90K on diversity training to try and get rid of and STILL nothing changed. THAT ISH ISN’T GOING AWAY ANYTIME SOON!

I’m hoping that President Obama (ooh it feels good to say that) helps shatter some of those stereotypical molds that they try and put us in, and help folk realize that there’s more to us than what they see in the media or what they’ve come across in their limited encounters. We are not homogeneous.

(whew, I need a clove now, and I don’t have one. Dammit.)

ur TOTALLY missing the point. And as an aside I’ve NEVER heard SBM say “life is good” its usually some ongoing complaint even outside of the every day jokey jokey complaints and musings. So Imma just do a back flip on that account.

Personal accountability isn;t really about how you “carry yourself” from the perspective of the outside world. ITS ABOUT HOW YOU ALSO SEE YOURSELF. The reason why Im not here like I was, is because of LANGUAGE. TOTAL tomfoolery aside, because i can shoot the willy bo bo with the rest of them. But when serious discussions happen. The WOE IS ME BULLSHYT is so old and VERY VERY TELLING.

Which is why I usually leave this site laughing (in a bad way)…constant complaints about life, love, health, kids…and IT IS NO WONDER seriously. When are people going to understand that LANGUAGE. WHAT COMES OUT YOUR MOUTH. OFF OF YOUR KEYBOARD. is so spiritual so important.

Please go online or turn on the tv and really focus on Obama. Forget about him being black. Just look at his language. Look at how he stepped out on faith. With right action. Purposeful thought.

im not discounting that the economy is real…but some of yall been bitchyin since way before the technical recession.

    get yo mind right..seriously.

And you’re missing my point…. all I’m saying is that racism isn’t dead. Period. And just because people vent doesn’t mean they are negative people. Some things you just gotta woo-sah out and keep moving. Let it go. Unfortunately, the strangers on this site only see my outlet for letting BS go….you don’t get to see how I’ve managed to hold things together over the past year of some pretty deep ish. My life is in a SHAMBLES right now but I still remain hopeful that things will turn around when they are supposed to turn around. Part of the reason I wasn’t a nervous wreck yesterday over the election was because I knew that things would work out the way they SHOULD. No amount of freaking out was going to change a thing.

I’m glad you all have such a Pollyanna view of life. Everyone can be perfect in cyberspace if they want to, I guess…..

  25. 25 25. Rob

I’m glad you said that SBM. Racism has been over for a while. This country is filled with opportunities for anyone who values education and works hard to achieve. I went to more than 17 schools, grew up poor and homeless and have found doors open to me precisely because I was a young black kid who worked hard, had integrity, a little bit of smarts, and had the right values.

This country has been willing to elect any candidate, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender…for a long time. I think the only real remaining barrier is religion.

I hope Barack’s election doesn’t cause a lot of young black men to go the other way and believe that now they can expect a lot of handouts, because that era is over. They need to reject criminality, and embrace education and hard work and God. Become good father’s when they create a child, and be much more responsible.

Incidentally, I’m a Republican but voted for Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate. I think Obama is a good guy and the smartest candidate out of the two major parties but he is far too liberal for me and I would find it difficult to vote for any candidate who was not Pro-Life.

Yea its dumb to assume racsim is dead. And for number 2, personal responsibility is pointless when talking about a “global” economy. I am not saying dont have one but blaming a employee when the ENTIRE industy is in the tank is straight dumb…I guess those people (if black) who do blame the individual exclusively would have not been whipped if they were slaves…I guess they wouldnt have been slaves neither.

It used to be “blue collar” people were laid off now its white collar gigs so it aint about bad habits or personal politics that one drags into the office. Yes there are MBA’s that are unemployed simply becuase the Shareholders want more profits.

There is nothing personally you can do about what the shareholders want.

The biggest outlay of expenses for ALL firms are INCOMES and BENEFITS-so you want to make more money cut some employees sometimes the ones commanding the biggest paychecks.

What you can do is realize you will not retire from a job you got in 20’s or 30’s. You must Continue Education POST GRAD DEGREE if I hear one more MBA mope about what they thought upon getting out…cry me a river. So what, did you really think at 27 you were DONE with all education?

What about the todays 45 yr old techie that got blindsided by the Web’s explosion when he was in his early 30’s?

Acting all aloof cause you got a MBA is straight up dumb, or worst assuming cause you have one you are “jobless proof”

So to me trying to suggest one cannot falter if they just watch themselves is a naive point of view (it also alleviates the responsibility that firms play…such as an Auto Worker-showed up on time for twenty yrs and then poof! job is gone). We are ALL in The Matrix and a degree or personal attitude can change that.

temps ..im NOT just talking about money. Economy aside..ive been on this blog for A LOOOONG time. And the complaints about health, love and life are generally the same. Stop by on Friday or look at some of the previous entries about how life doesnt work for the constant complainers and then connect a few dots.

My argument is that there is a DIRECT and REAL correlation between language WORDS and how your life DOES OR DOESN’T work. Life hands us social, love, political, financial, and parental lemons. the idea is to not keep suckin on the same bitter citrus day after day after day.

the constant neverending struggle is not honorable..a well oiled and purposeful life is.
