Being born in DC and raised in Maryland (PG County to be exact) … I have been indoctrinated with the unique lingo of my area. Here is a glossary to help decipher some of the terms I might throw out in my posts.

Also, I have been known to make up words and use them like people know what I’m talking about. Those will be included here.

Bucket Head - A “low-quality” girl. Usually characterized by her lack of intelligence. She may possess degrees and professional learning, but may still cling to an ignorance distinguishing the emptiness of her bucket head.

Vicious - Great or really good. Often used when describing girls. For example “Halle Berry has to be the most vicious girl out there.”

Roller, Jumpoff, Temporary Joint - A hoe.

Crucial - Real serious or “big”. “That test is going to be crucial … it covers the 3 years of school in 2 hours!”

Dawg - Term of “endearment” used between males; First person term used for a male (sometimes female).

Carry - To greatly insult, often publicly; (Girls throws drink in face of guy) Friend: “Damn … you gonna let her carry you like that!”

Scruples - Sense of decency and self respect; Often used in reference to women.

Beat, Smash - Have sex; Copulate

Screw (music) - Named after DJ Screw and popularized in Houston, TX, screw music is characterized by taking regular music, and literally slowing it down. While a lot of it has Houston Rappers freestyling over various beats, a lot of screw takes regular songs, and simply slows them down. Most songs are also chopped, where skips are added and lines played over (similar to traditional DJ scratching).

Mambo Sauce - A sweet and tangy sauce native to the DC, Maryland & Virginia area.  Served exclusively at “carry-outs” (small Chinese restaurants that serve everything from Moo Shoo Pork to Chicken Cheese Steak subs) and usually applied liberally on fried chicken or french fries. Red in color and described as a mix of sweet & sour and bbq sauce.
